About the i-think Awards

Jump to: History | This year’s awards

The i-think Awards are an annual event typically held in July/August. The i-think Foundation receives nominations in an open category format. The nominations are then voted for by the i-think Foundation.

The i-think Awards dinner has been held for the last four awards ceremonies and has proven to be a memorable occasion:

“Last night was amusing. I attended The 2003 i-think Awards, and was amazed to win an award, despite not being nominated in any of the categories.” - http://splunge.net.au/archive/news.php?year=2003&month=08

The truth is that you never know quite what can happen at the i-think Awards!

History Goto Top

The i-think Awards started in early 2001 and was inspired by the Academy Awards for the year. Nominations began almost immediately. The awards ceremony was voice-recorded as a sendup by myself and Paul Doessel (also a long-time i-think Foundation board member). Unfortunately both the recording and the results where lost in the Great Purge.

In 2002 the awards truly began to flourish and voting became more democratic. It was in 2002 that the decision was made to focus on the social aspect of the awards and a dinner was held at Jo Jo's in Brisbane City. The evening was a great success and enjoyed by all.

2003 saw the i-think Awards taken even further when the open category structure was implemented. Individual board members were now able to run their own categories enabling everyone to enjoy the suspense right before the envelope is opened. This year the dinner was held at the Hog's Breath Cafe.

In 2004 the awards grew in size, and Paul Doessel cleaned up once again. The night will be long remembered, so if you missed it be sure to check out the photo gallery (139 photos) for a full run-down of the night. Including every damn award Paul won. A list of winners from the 2004 awards (and all nominees can be found on the i-think 22 website.
Attendance at the 2005 i-think Awards

Attendance at the 2005 i-think Awards

In 2005, the i-think awards returned to their roots, with only the initial core attendees. With three of the attendees coming from interstate it turned out as a reunion of sorts. Last minute phone calls were not able to boost the attendance, but nevertheless a fun evening was enjoyed by all.

The 2006 awards were held at the Summit Restaurant at Mt Coot-tha. We even had Trish's mum as a special guest.

In 2007 the awards were held interstate for the first time, in Sydney. The event kicked of an exciting ski trip to New Zealand.

The i-think Foundation

The i-think Foundation was established mid 2000. It was established to help members of the foundation communicate their opinions about current affairs. To assist in this the i-think mailing list was established. A good majority of the members of the foundation are in the IT industry so a second list i-think IT was established. This list flourished even further than the original i-think list, which was closed early in 2003.

The foundation has also spun off the i-think 22 website to focus on the President's personal endeavours and was able to host the lists better than our previous affiliation with Topica. The website also allowed for the establishment of a web-based bulletin board, which has been closed due to lack of use.

It soon became apparent that the social aspect of the i-think Foundation was growing stronger, so the i-think Pro list was created to better organise discussions.

The foundation currently has four highly active board members. Rhys Parry is the President and founder of the foundation.
